Even if your car has a powerful engine from the factory, the manufacturers will still have built in a lot of reserves to allow for different climates, fuel and legal restrictions around the world. By modifying the software in the car’s engine control unit (ECU) we can optimise the characteristics of your car. By paying close attention to Air fuel ratios, Turbo boost pressure, Exhaust gas temperatures, Injector duty cycles etc this will give you more power, greater torque, faster acceleration and quicker throttle response.
At Kraken Racing we work on all types and ages of ECU. From EDC's requiring chip tuning up to the more modern MEDC17 locked Tricore processor with tuner protection. The different types of ECU´s require different set of tools and skillset. From a simple OBD II tune to a more complex operation by removing and opening the ECU and solder directly on to the circuit board. All of this require a special attention to details and we have special checklists to make sure we carry out the work perfectly and with zero tolerance for mistakes.

We have to make sure optimum AFR is achieved in order to ensure that stoichiometric mixture.
This means that the engine isn’t running lean or rich fuel mixture. Not to forget, this is also important in order to pass the vehicle inspection, ITV/MOT.
It is very important that correct boost pressure control is achieved to ensure that no spikes or dips occur to ensure the life of the turbo charger is maintained. A spike in the boost delivery can cause over-boosting which pressurises the compressor to levels beyond its tolerance margin.
With increased fuel and boost pressure, the engine naturally increases the EGT. It is important to monitor the EGT of an engine. In order to maintain the longevity of the engine there is a crucial limit which shouldn’t be surpassed. By upgrading the intercoolers, the efficiency can be monitored by this tool.
This is crucial to know the fuelling limitation of the injector. On some modern cars we can see injectors with 100% IDC already from the factory. This means there is no room for modifications and we have to upgrade the injectors in order to make further power increase. (Luckily, this is rare). If the engine had a turbo fitted and the turbo boost pressure was raised, due to there being no additional fuel available, it would cause the engine to run lean and potentially melt the pistons.

Normally vans are using engine variants straight from normal mainstream cars, so the tuning potential on these is the same as for cars. The last 15 years of diesel development has not excluded marine applications, with our extensive knowledge and in-house development programs we are able to provide tuning solutions for both petrol and diesel marine applications. We are able to tune jet skis right up to super yachts as most of them are running electronic injections.
Having your EGR (Exhaust Gas Recycling) Delete software can save you money in repairs and in fuel costs. Kraken racing can correctly remove the functionality from the software of most ECU types. Other companies will just delete the codes associated with it being unplugged but this is not the correct way. The EGR valve needs properly disabling to ensure it is not trying to recirculate exhausts gases whilst still physically working in the engine.

A DPF (Diesel Particular filter) has a life time of around 120,000 kilometre but this figure depending on vehicle use and engine condition. Every time the ECU forces a regeneration cycle it burns the particulate matter down to a much smaller amount of finer soot, they are not completely removed from the filter. This means that over time, the fine soot content builds up to a point where a regeneration cycle is no longer effective. At this point the filter either needs emptying or replacing.
